Corsham Court Gardens
Beautiful Capability Brown Parkland surrounds the magnificent house, minutes from Corsham High Street. The parkland was later enhanced by Humphry Repton. The gardens are best in Spring with a small arboretum- plus magnolias, amongst drifts of daffodils
The beautiful Corsham Court dates from 1583 and is set in beautiful parkland within a few minutes walk from Corsham Hight Street.
Not much is know about the gardens before 'Capability Brown' came to the property creating a natural landscapewith vista through trees and across open parkland to follies, ruins and water features. He then planted trees including an Oriental Plane which is now enormous with a sprawling canopy said to be the widest for any tree of its type. His one surviving building in the gardens is the Gothic Bath House which which is still complete.
Later in the 18th century Humphry Repton started diiging the lake that was proposed by Brown and this can now be seen in the distance from the back of the House.
There is a good selection of trees in the Parkland including Magnolia with large drifts of daffodils in the Spring.
The formal gardens are relatively small with 2 areas, a pond and colourful borders in the summer. At the side of the front of the house are massive topiary yews in 'cloud' form.
