Lytes Cary Manor Garden

Lytes Cary Manor Garden, National Trust, Somerset

Lytes Cary Manor was owned of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, and the house is surrounded by an enchanting small garden.

We visited Lytes Cary Manor Garden influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, near Somerton on a warm summer's day and were not disappointed.
The borders are planted with mixed shrubs, perennials and roses. Hidden paths enclosed by high hedges lead to surprise views.
The path leading up to the manor is bordered with some fine topiary.
Beyond  a formal orchard, open lawns and statues lead to a shady tunnel of hornbeam and a secret garden.
If visiting make time to see inside the medieval  Lytes Cary Manor, previously owned by the Jenner family and furnished from his time there in the 1900s.There are several other beautiful gardens nearby including Barrington Court, Tintinhull close by.
