Myddelton House Gardens, Enfield

Edward Bowles lived and created the gardens at Myddelton House and dedicated much of his life to transforming the Gardens with his love of unusual and exotic plants, coupled with features no doubt in line with his sense of humour.
He was taken seriously and was Vice President of the RHS for 28 years. One of his specialities was Crocuses where he became known as the 'Crocus King' 

In 2009, the Gardens were awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, enabling a two year project to restore several areas of the Gardens to their former glory, in particular the Kitchen Garden. Today you will not see manicured gardens with the exception of one or two areas, instead you will see the remnants of one of Britain's most quirky historic gardens.
These include features like the Enfield Markert Cross (destined to be broken up) situated in a small garden room, Tom Tidler's ground the Lunatic Asylam, and other areas.

It seems that there are insufficient funds to maintain the gardens as the Rock Garden has once again fallen into disrepair. However the gardens still have an atmosphere of their own

Visitor to the garden during February and March will see our impressive collection of snowdrops and crocuses.
