Wood Vale Garden

Mona's Garden, London

Small London private garden but with lots of interesting plants including collections from New Zealand

Open under the National Garden Scheme. Nearest Tube station Highgate.

Hidden behind a 1930's terrace in Muswell Hill, North London, the 1/5 of an acre garden is home to a great variety of plants including a large collection of Mediterranean and Australasian trees and shrubs, some rare and unusual, particularly the extensive collection of "Corokias" from New Zealand.

The first section comprises a clipped box hedge surrounding a centrepiece fountain and framing the Mediterranean type plants. The long and narrow garden then flows through an archway leading to a meandering path flanked by two long mixed borders of soft textured grasses and perennials, punctuated by a variety of shrubs, trees and bamboos.

This then opens out onto a wider more intimate area enclosed by a "Corokia" hedge, containing a small rockery, bog garden, and borders which surround the raised rose beds.
