Belmont House & Gardens, Faversham
Beautiful Gardens surround this historic house, includuing a recent Kitchen Garden by Arabella Lennox-Boyd. House Tours available.
The beautiful Georgian house of Belmont and garden, set in its own parkland, amid stunning views of the rolling Kent countryside, is a completely unspoilt and distinctive example of the work of the architect Samuel Wyatt.
The Walled Garden to the rear of the stable yard is an intimate enclosed garden with long borders containing an abundance of annuals and perennials. It gives a beautiful splash of colour from Spring through to Autumn. The ornamental pond is full of wildlife including frogs, toads, newts, and water boatmen.
On one side of the walls is the Pinetum with grotto and to the other the lawns leading to the Ha-Ha.
The Trustees invited Arabella Lennox-Boyd to create a new Kitchen Garden for their Millennium Project. The resulting design is a part productive, part ornamental theme and the garden is filled with trained fruit, vegetables, flowering trees, and a beautiful ornamental pond. Remaining true to the design, it was the Belmont Garden staff who turned her brief into reality – introducing new gravel paths, box hedges, fruit arches, an ornamental pond, hop arbours and a semi-circular pleached hedge of pyrus chanticleer. Plants and seasonal produce can be found on sale near the greenhouse entrance.
To the rear of this garden are beehives and a beautiful Mandala, planted with box hedges and lavender, a floral nod to the Harris family connections with India.
Belmont houses objects that reflect 6 generations of continuous occupation by one family, containing wonderful mementos of the family's history and travels - paintings, photograph albums, furniture, beautiful Indian and English silverware along with one of the finest private collections of clocks and watches in Britain outside those in the national museums.
