Swiss Garden, Biggleswade
A visit to The Swiss Garden takes you back to the early 19th century, when an interest in ornamental gardening and picturesque architecture was combined with a passion for 'Swiss Vogue'.
The Swiss Garden is a unique and beautiful example from one of the great periods of English gardening. Within just 10 acres you can wander among splendid shrubs and rare trees, around tiny islands and ponds and over intricate ironwork bridges. At the centre of this romantic scene is a tiny thatched Swiss Cottage lined with intricate fretwork and perched on a grassy knoll.
Within the garden are 13 listed structures, an adjacent woodland sculpture trail and three resident peacocks. It’s a delight to explore and restoration work in 2014 has ensured it has accessibility for all visitors.
During school holidays workshops and activity trails for children are available. Events such as outdoor theatre and music take place every year and can be booked online. Please visit our events page for all available activities and events.
