Where to see Tulips this Spring

forde-abbey-tulip-displays

Did you know that Tulips originated in Central Asia. The name for 'tulips' was thought to have come from the Persian word for a turban, as the flowers were thought to resemble turbans (with a bit of imagination perhaps). Nowadays they are planted in British Gardens everywhere flowering from April until mid-May.
We feature 7 gardens where you can see stunning displays of tulips to take your breath away. Have a look!

Arundel Castle Gardens - Sussex

The Tulip Festival here is one of the finest displays in Europe and is set against the breath-taking backdrop of the Castle. A sea of colour awaits as the festival showcases over 120 different named tulips planted by the castle's award-winning Head Gardener, Martin Duncan, and his team. This year's festival is set to feature over 110,000 tulips, creating a stunning display of colour and beauty as the bulbs burst into bloom.

Forde Abbey, Somerset
There will be an explosion of colour this spring with Tulips taking centre stage. There are early, mid-season and later flowering varieties to flower right from the beginning of April to mid-May. There are selected combinations in various heart-warming colours to welcome you. A mixture of wild species has been planted in other parts of the garden to blend in harmoniously with the wildflower meadows. Quite unique is the tulip swirl inspired by a Penitential Spiral from Monastic times, used for meditation by the Monks.
