As the dainty white flowers of the snowdrop break through the winter frosts, it's a sure sign that spring is on the way. This tour takes us to some of the most dazzling displays of Galanthus to be found on the eastern side of Scotland. Our visits include Cambo Gardens, home to the Plant Heritage national collection of snowdrops, and the private gardens of Laundry Cottage and Bruckhills Croft, with their informal cottage-style gardens.
At Dunninald Castle, carpets of snowdrops can be seen throughout the woods and walled garden and at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, there is a collection of specialist snowdrops. Other visits include Barnhill Rock Garden which spans more than two hectares; Fyvie Castle whose woods are filled with snowdrops from mid-January until late February and the Cruickshank Botanic Garden in Old Aberdeen.

Great Gardens of Cornwall 25 March and 16th April 5 days from £1445

caerhays-castle-garden-holiday

This holiday begins with a tour of the Lost Gardens of Heligan with Garden Manager Alasdair Moore, after a personal introduction from Sir Tim Smit. Visit to the wonderful spring gardens of Caerhays Castle, which includes lunch and a welcome from the owner Charles Williams. We take a day trip to The Scilly Isles with a trip to Tresco Gardens Abbey Gardens led by Mike Nelhams.
There is a day at Tregothnan Estate, where we will be welcomed by the owner Lord Falmouth. We will then be privileged to enjoy a tour of the garden which opens very infrequently to the public. As a private botanic garden and arboretum Tregothnan is unequalled, offering a diversity of plants and trees, rare collections, weeping vistas and peaceful secluded groves. Plants collected during recent expeditions to Japan and South America give the gardens truly international feel.
