Traquair House is Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, dating back to 1107, and lived in by the Stuart family since 1491. HOUSE OPEN.

Traquair House is the oldest inhabited House in Scotland, with strong Jacobite connections, and set in 100 acres of informal woodland gardens.
Why Visit Traquair?

  • Old fashioned roses adorn the walls of the courtyard and Cupid's garden
  • A herbaceous border and old apple orchard in the Walled Garden
  • Ancient yew tree woodlands and circle dating back to the 12th Century
  • Scotland's largest hedged maze, providing fun for all
  • Spring flowers abound in front of the House, and in the woodland and rhododendron walk
  • New paths have been developed which make the House and grounds accessible on foot from nearby Innerleithen, with a 15-minute walk over the River Tweed and meandering through the woodlands.
  • A visit to the House itself will enhance any visit, and the Garden Café provides light lunches and delicious cakes; visitors can sit outside in the shelter of the Walled Garden.
