There were plans for a restoration of the original design but these are currently on hold. The terraces overlooked an orchard from the late 1600s which has now been replanted.

Sir James Horlick acquired the estate in 1944 he wished to establish a garden to grow his more tender Rhododendrons.
He managed this by cutting small clearings in the Ponticum and trees and by 1970 the garden was full and looked magnificent. On his death he left some of his collection to the National Trust for Scotland so that rare species could be propagated and shared with other great gardens.

Overlooking Ben Nevis and Glen Coe, Ard Daraich is the former holiday home of Constance Spry set in 8 acres of Hill Garden with an important collection of Rhododendrons, Acers and other rare trees and shrubs.
For the last 50 years we have built a collection of ericaceous plants including over four hundred Rhododendron, species and hybrids, Acers and Sorbus trees - a collection that has been noticed by specialists including the International Dendrologist Society. The land opposite the house has now become an interesting woodland with Styrax, Davidia, Liquidamber and Stachyurus. The house is bordered at the front with a Camellia (Debbie) hedge, which is spectacular in the spring.
Ard Daraich - Opening times:
Open for contributions to the maintenance and for groups by prior arrangement only. WC in house available to visitors. Steep paths and steps.
We also offer self catering in a comfortable cottage for two, the Garden Studio. Open plan living in the heart of the garden. (dogs welcome)
","ffcc1c50-8dbd-4115-b463-b43bdcd44a57":
"c1cc1b41-237c-4705-8a08-77c3db5eb59f":
"a09fb8f9-46f8-4cf5-8746-f1140d705424":
"91617eb5-d23e-4c0c-82d5-a46d85e8c5b4":
"4339a108-f907-4661-9aab-d6f3f00e736e":"Ard Daraich, Ardgour","ea0666d7-51e3-4e52-8617-25e3ad61f8b8":"PH33 7AB","90a18889-884b-4d53-a302-4e6e4595efa0":"Fort William","6a20c005-7bd3-4014-919a-6edfd2239284":"Inverness-shire","81c5f642-2f7f-491f-b1c2-ce32ec688125":["GB"],"b870164b-fe78-45b0-b840-8ebceb9b9cb6":"01855 841384","3f15b5e4-0dea-4114-a870-1106b85248de":"info@arddaraich.co.uk","0b3d983e-b2fa-4728-afa0-a0b640fa34dc":"https://ardgour-selfcatering.co.uk","160bd40a-3e0e-48de-b6cd-56cdcc9db892":"Sallachan Loop Road, Ardgour, Fort William PH33 7AB, United Kingdom
["105","88","92","89","59","83","0

Spring has good displays of daffodils, followed by Azaleas and roses, the herbaceous borders are at their best in July and many trees have good autumn colours. The peaceful garden has magnificent views across Loch Etive and the ruined chapel and graveyard to its rear can also be viewed.
